Introducing Our New Bio-Based Wax Portfolio: Derived from Rice Bran

The demand for bio-sourced raw materials continues to grow across the coatings and plastics industries, driven by the global commitment to sustainability and the need to reduce carbon footprints. When these resources do not compete with food supply, they offer even greater ecological value.

Polygon Chemie AG is pleased to announce a new collaboration with a specialized rice bran wax producer. Leveraging advanced extraction and refinement technologies, this partner produces long-chain carboxylic acids (C>23) from rice bran through a bleaching and oxidation process. These acids serve as the key building blocks for a new generation of high-performance, modified waxes.

We are now introducing two new product types under the POLYGONAL WAX BIO portfolio:

POLYGONAL WAX BIO-E and the micronized version EZ

  • Produced via esterification with ethylene glycol, these ester waxes offer excellent performance in a range of applications.

POLYGONAL WAX BIO-OP and the micronized version OPZ

  • A partially saponified variant of BIO-E, designed to meet specific formulation needs.

These rice bran-based waxes are engineered as sustainable alternatives to traditional montan waxes, offering comparable functionality and application versatility. They are suitable for use in:

  • Coatings and paints
  • Printing inks
  • Plastics processing
  • Specialty applications (e.g., polishes, stationery, etc.)

Key benefits include:

  • Internal and external lubrication
  • Excellent pigment dispersion

Surface modification and gloss control

By integrating renewable, non-food competing feedstocks, the POLYGONAL WAX BIO series supports your product development goals and sustainability strategies—contributing directly to the reduction of your products’ carbon footprint.

We look forward to supporting your transition to bio-based solutions.
